ELEVEN sections of main road will be upgraded in the Council’s annual summer road resurfacing programme.
More than 38,000m2 of road surface across the borough will be renewed during the six weeks of work.
The programme gets under way with the full closure of a section of Kiln Road on Monday 29th July and continues until early September. Works will be temporarily suspended over the Reading Festival period on the traffic sensitive routes for the festival, from Wednesday 21st August to Monday 26th August inclusive.
Advance notices of road closures will be in place days before the works commence in each road and locally signed diversion routes will operate. Notification letters will also be sent to local residents and businesses affected by the resurfacing.
Cllr Tony Page, Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said:
“The resurfacing of 11 sections of main road across Reading will benefit everyone who travels on them.
“Reading’s road network is under immense pressure and road maintenance funding from central government has failed to keep up with demand in recent years. The highways featuring in this year’s resurfacing programme have been selected following road condition assessments and against the budget available.
“The works have been scheduled to coincide with the school holidays when the roads are generally quieter but there will inevitably be some delays and inconvenience. I would encourage all road users to be aware of the schedule of works and thank them for their co-operation and patience in advance.”

Where full road closures are required for such work, this has been allowed for in the above programme details.
