2018 Local Elections – Information for the Media
Local Elections Thursday 3rd May 2018
Council Seats Information:
Elections are being held in 15 of the 16 Borough wards. There will be no Election in Mapledurham Ward in 2018.
Reading Council is currently controlled by Labour. The council leader is Cllr Jo Lovelock.
Political composition of the council: LAB 31, CON 10, GRN 3, LD 2 (Total 46)
Party breakdown of the seats up for election:
Labour – 13, Conservative – 3, Green – 1, Lib Dem 1
There are three additional casual vacancies, two previously held by labour and one conservative. The vacancies are in Church, Kategrove and Kentwood Wards.
Registering to Vote
Key deadline dates:
· Register to vote by midnight Tuesday 17 April.
· Postal/Postal Proxy Applications (and for changes to existing Postal, Postal Proxy and Proxy Votes) by 5pm Wednesday 18 April.
· Proxy vote applications 5pm on 25 April 2018.
Poll cards will be sent out on or around 28 March 2018 and again on or around 25 April 2018. Postal votes will be sent out on or around 19 April and a second batch is being sent on or around 24 April 2018.
People do not need to present their poll cards to vote.
Results will be available on the council’s website: www.reading.gov.uk/electionresults

The count will take place at Rivermead Sports Complex, Richfield Ave, Reading, Berkshire RG1 8EQ
